The exhibition consists of about three dozen works of drawing with coal on paper, the paintings use a mixed technique and there is also a series of instalations. Acosta was born in Elvas, having a degree in fine arts in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.
This exhibition is entitled "Glass stockings" as a metaphor for the real underlying issue.
Acosta: It's not a metaphor "glass stockings" is the name of the exhibition it. It was the name I chose with some persistence, is a project that is being developed for seven years. Throughout life we create various "selves" as a result of the wounds which we are having, how we relate to people. "Glass stockings” also because I can wear them to go to the street more beautiful and I head the other half to assault emotions. The idea is to have the definition of a leader who can control others 'selves' say smaller, or even dangerous, or even kind, I do not know, what is essential is to have a leader who let them be a little of each without being out of control.
You used an almost minimalist palette, there are only touches of color. It was on purpose or appeared naturally after this reflection?
AC: It is the result of a persistent reflection as I said. There is a clear contrast between light and dark, because of this dichotomy between the power to do good and evil, is the great contrast.
You also have some pictures.
AC: No pictures. They are psychological studies.
Of those persons or about you?
AC: About me, about these people that I follow. One of the pictures, as you say, is the result of a conversation that lasted two years, I was artistic producer of a person, I knew her very well, because I accompanied a project she subsequently opened and so I thought I should draw a psychological profile from the artistic point of view and the end of that product is that work.
Some of the works are only lines with a lot of movement, it seems that they dance.
AC: Are transmutations, so where I am negotiating with other "selves" and they die in my arms. The proposal that I present is my "I" to negotiate with my "I" female that dies in my arms and the 'I' leader surrenders to nature and is released. It seems that dance, but it is not. It is the search itself, there is a gathering between selves.
You also have these young ladies who are making a performance. What is the symbolism behind all this?
AC: They are my soldiers. They protect my transparency. They are aware of everything that's happening, because it's the first time I am really transparent.
Why it took seven years to get to this exhibition?
AC: It was a very lengthy process, because I have future projects of which I cannot talk about just yet, which had its stage. The first step was to work as artistic producer of a very special person and organize her a cultural event, now I show the public how I reflect on that and then is surprised.
Then there will be a third phase of this line of thought?
AC: Exactly.
