The city was awarded an European environmental award
The municipality of Cascais was awarded the "Climate Star", an award by the European Climate Alliance award. The organization thus award for the work in raising awareness and environmental education in the schools of the county.
The prizes of the sixth edition of "Climate Star" were delivered last week in Vienna, Austria, and Cascais was one of 14 European to receive the award, out of 1,600 competing municipalities cities.
The council took to the contest the "Energy Game" program, a game that has been used in the last two years in schools as an educational tool and awareness of environmental issues that concerns the municipality.
The "Climate Star" is awarded biennially by the Climate Alliance Europe, a network of more than 1,600 municipalities and cities of 24 European countries that aims primarily to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and the fight against climate change
It's more a reflection on the phenomenon of the "secret story".
I recently read a news article announcing the entry of 105 000 people for the new edition of the "secret story" issued by TVI. More, a new champion of audiences for this early autumn, however, What afflicts most national columnists is the comparing of this number with the stastistics data of students who entered in the universities and the television show wins again , ie, there are more people wanting to be instant superstars than wth college degrees. Will be this a prelude to another scrap generation? Seems daunting, is not it? In fact, we cannot forget that we live in world now where it became profitable to be famous without doing anything special, or for the worst motives, showing the more obscene and decadent facet of life, thanks to reality shows swarming through the various cable TV channels. And on this subject there is literally for all tastes! The trend that came to stay from the States manufactures, for decades, pseudo-TV stars that all they have to do is to be "themselves". Not to mention the social networks that extended the rampant narcissism of anonymous people who publish every day pictures of themselves with or without clothes, at a breakneck and unhealthy pace.
Came to the point of valuing not having any aptitude in special to be on television or in the media, just for this purpose all they have to be is funny, rude and stupid. So these are people who will lead the country? Of course not! Because these will be entertained with the number of likes on facebook, posting pictures on Instagram, or other related sites of the moment. The comparison, in my view, was precipitated, because it does not take into account that we are sunk in an economic crisis that impoverished families, which means that fewer young people can have the opportunity to access the universities. Second, unemployment is still rampant, and it remains an especially harsh reality for these new generations, who cannot even access a first opportunity to enter the labor market and third point in a country aimlessly, where we do not know what it will be tomorrow, where a dream nation does not exist, it is natural that many seek solutions where none exist, or which are only ephemeral and fictitious. Does anyone still remember the name of the person who won the first "secret story"?

Here are some of the trends this fall-winter 14/15 you will not want to miss.
The Customs of OPorto was once again the venue for presenting the new collections of national designers, of which I highlight some of the pieces that are part of the trends for this autumn-winter approaching apace.
The XXL coats returned and with it the paraphernalia of warm fabrics, from classic black long and various standards design , there is everything for the feminin taste, I highlight two designers whose pieces of garments fascinated me by the detail and quality of the cut, John Melo and Costa and TM Collection.

Other trends that mark this colder season and could not fail to be here are the meshes, with pieces made with many wide knots, or very bold drawings. I leave two examples, completely different, Fatima Lopes, who it always presented in her collections wool and Susana Bettencour that has once again clothes with patterns.

Gold will also mark the falling of the leaves of this season. One of the designers who bet more on these metallic tones in his collection was Carlos Gil. The pieces are combined with other fabrics or leather and the result are very luxurious coordinates for a woman who is not afraid to be bold and sensual.

It is a 2006 documentary directed by John Dias
The operations of the SAAL (outpatient service support local) was a technical support service directed to the deprived populations living in slums and huts, which promoted the construction of housing developed by teams architects and engineers, who were subsequently built by the population themselves. This revolutionary initiative arises during the first provisional government after April 25th, outlined by the then Secretary of State for Housing and Urban Development, the architect Nuno Portas. The documentary explains the whole process of SAAL, through its various stakeholders, from architects, engineers, residents and politicians, all explain their personal view, about the impact of this initiative had, unprecedented in Europe, on their lives. It's a very interesting story, because it focuses several secondary aspects, but no less important, of this period of Portuguese history, popular meetings where everyone could speak publicly without fear of reprisal, the more active role of women in society and a certain chaos inherent in a new society that was under construction. It is an excellent example of how unity becomes a strength literally, though, and once again, how the constant power struggles and covert interests "helped" to stop the SAAL definitely. The director traces, in temporal terms, the various stages of this process and makes a trip by some of the most successful projects to the present day, and this path leaves many questions still unanswered. In my view, it is important document for current and future generations of Portuguese, because it depicts a whole draft of an innovative social housing project, which in most cases was very successful. Have a nice movie!
Artists João Parrinha, Luis de Dios and Xandi Kreuzeder joined forces to create Skeleton Sea. Three are ambitious surfers, working as a collective to communicate their visions of the meeting point between mother nature, sport and art. Their creations have made an excellent contribution to environmental awareness from the perspective of those who depend on nature to feed the passion for the sport. Also, they organize beach cleanups and creative workshop where the orders are to recycle and imagine.
When this project Skeleton Sea started?
John Parrinha: It all started with the addition of being an artist and surfers, ie, before I've made sculptures with the reuse of a series of materials that I found and then joined them to make works of art. Me and my surfer friends spent a lot of time on the beaches, we accumulate a lot of garbage on the coast and decided to do something. We set up this project called "skeleton sea" in 2005, which aims to collect garbage from beaches, these make a debris sorting and created art with these materials. We held workshops with extensive range people and children who want to participate and also this message is a bit of awareness of the population about the pollution and waste that exists in the oceans.
How do you organize the cleanups of the beaches? It's once a year, or is there a timetable?
JP: It depends a little bit of our programming. We had much work lately and have not had time to do many cleaning, but now we start again in October. Do not know if it will be weekly or monthly, this all happens in Ericeira, where we are based, but have done many cleanings over the world and are available to provide this type of project. We traveled with some of the pieces we do, we can do beach clean-ups and workshops, is what we are going to do now in Corunna.
A curious fact about the pieces is that not only reflect the recycling of materials, but somehow attempt to illustrate endangered marine animals.
JP: Exactly. This concern is also great, we have a tuna, for example, which was endangered by being over caught, and this is also the message we want to convey. Be aware that we are giving out all this slowly, not only with the trash, but the overfishing of certain species that may be endangered.
These actions stemming from the beaches, do you have the notion of trash collected in terms of weighing? Tons maybe?
JP: Tons is a lot, but I remember Brazil in terms of trash collected with four teams for two hours, we collected a ton and a half and it was a scary thing. I know we were in a very polluted area was an estuary of a river, had too much junk running with the current, which would stop along the beaches. For example, in a "normal" beach where we do not see at first glance a lot of garbage, with a team of 50 to 100 people for two hours, in garbage bags of 100 liters, we caught around 15 bags of debris, even so. It is too much rubbish and would not even see it much, the beach looks clean, but little by little we are picking up between the stones and the amount is huge.

The Portuguese are among Europe's citizens that save more water according to Eurobarometer, of the European Commission on environmental issues.
Cut in water consumption has been one of the measures adopted with increasing frequency by the Portuguese to protect the planet. According to data released this month by the European Commission about the attitude of the population of the 28 Member States in this context, Portugal is the country where the most people that have invested in reducing waste this natural resource: 63% of respondents say they have cut this consumption with the goal of reducing environmental damage. This percentage puts the Portuguese far above the European average - 37% - in terms of saving water, followed them to the Spaniards (55%), the Luxembourgers (54%) and Maltese (52%). Among the countries least concerned with the adoption of this measure are Sweden (18%) and Estonia (18%).
Other behaviors favored by respondents Portuguese are the separation of household waste for recycling (71% say they have done it in prior to completing the questionnaire month a value only 1% lower than the EU average) and the reduction of energy consumption through gestures that pass, for example, by not leaving electronic devices on standby. In terms of reduced energy expenditure, Portugal is the same, and again, above the European average, in general, 52% of Europeans say they have begun to adopt this solution as a way to protect the environment, while 60% of Portuguese ensure already have this care. On the negative side, our country is on the list of those where residents bet on less consumption of local products (20%, against a European average of 35%) and less opt for environmentally friendly forms of travel such as walking, cycling or transport public (25% in Portugal to 35% in Europe).
The European Commission emphasizes that this Eurobarometer comes three years after the completion of the first survey of its kind and that "there is no indication that the concerns of Europeans regarding environmental issues has decreased during this period of time." "The most serious concerns are related to air pollution and oceans with waste generated in the European Union and the destruction of natural resources", that is in the report. The document adds that "the impact of chemicals used daily in health is also a major concern for Europeans", a trend which is, however, contradicted by Portugal, where this concern is only 26% of respondents to give HIM priority.
Eurobarometer findings are based on a survey conducted by TNS Opinion & Social Network in the 28 European Union countries between April 26 and May 11, 2014, which responded to 27,998 citizens from different social and demographic groups through ists Interview performed at home, face to face, in their native languages.

This is the second part of my journey through the markets, only this time I will talk about some national spaces.
This is a text of continuity which seems fair considering that the earlier approached the markets that I like are mostly in Europe. Now it's time to talk about my country planted by the sea. And start with the North, which I highlight a kind of market, that happens in Valenca do Minho, a town near the border with Spain. It is a medieval city with a mix of open commerce and makeshift stalls that sell everything for the home, from blankets, mattresses, linen sheets, gold and rattan trade. The most curious thing is that all this happens within the walls the ancient fortress, just go through the sidewalk and stone door, yes, another door, yes, sell a bit of everything. The contrast between the walled gray rocks and the colors of the fabrics and its people is a profound appeal for a visit. Apart from its architectural beauty, Valenca do Minho is traditionally visited by hordes of Spaniards in search of its appealing traditional commerce.

Reached down to the city of Porto and you find one of the markets most irreverent outdoor the metropolis, as well in the historical center, in Fontaínhas, the so call fair of Vandoma, which arises precisely from the initiative college students, in the seventies, who wanted to sell some of their belongings. There is nothing more genuine than this market for used objects. A warning to the navegation, if you want to sell something you have to get really early to get a small space, or want to buy something like that. Everything disappears in a flash and soon in the cool morning. If you just for a visits take your time, but be prepared to have to search long to park site. It's the most noisy market I know, where you can hear all kinds of swearing in Porto's way and where you can find real bargains, as you know, the junk for some are treasure for others. Prepare to negotiate and potentially being scammed! Well, there it is. Eyes wide open. Not everything that glitters is gold.

The South, in our nation's capital, Lisbon, there is a market that always deserves my nostalgic visit the Ribeira Market, located at Pier of Sodré. Worth the journey if only for the beauty of a building in wrought Portuguese iron and diversity of products ranging from fresh vegetables, fish and side of the aromatic flowers of all colors and shapes.

In Setúbal, one of the markets that simply cannot be missed is the Deliverance. Who lives and toils of the ocean for those who like to be able to enjoy the best the sea has to offer, simply has to visit this area. They also sell other local products, but the fish is king. Another of the curiosities about this building with 138 years of existence is the beauty of their tile murals that depict scenes of everyday Portuguese life.
The career of Paulo de Carvalho can be described as prolific and diverse in musical terms. Part of his repertoire songs that reflect important moments of Portuguese history, but many to discover it was not for the silence....
Let's talk about this journey of more than 50 years of career. There was something that did not over time I would have done.
Paulo de Carvalho: Truly are 52 years old. Yes, I would like to do everything. I enjoy making music, it is fundamentally that with people of internationally music and beyond. Also finally make the kind of music I like, without having any kind of problems that have to do with survival often.
And the musicians at national level?
PC: I practically sang with everyone. Mariza, Rita Guerra, Carlos Carmo and when we speak of it we run the risk of being unfair. It's a lifetime to sing with fellow profession.
You have two facets that holds in parallel singing and composing, there is some that you prefer to do repeatedly?
PC: It is like this, nothing I do is separable from the person I am. You ask me do I prefer more making music than singing? Like both, both like to sing and write lyrics for songs, now, depends for who, what and where is the object that I ask each partner in terms of music. To me it makes no sense to write CD's because they are not played anywhere. The songs are only known through the "youtube" and the internet. The kids make good use of it, because albums do not sell. So I think I'm a good proof of what I'm saying, because almost two years I record an album and no one knows them, are on the shelf for when someone remembered that I exist.
But Paulo is critical of radios in Portugal.
PC: No, I am critical of some radios and the way that national eventually work because someone decides who is going to be inside the computer after a person in the cabin put the music there this may be unfair. When there was radio author, now there are fewer programs, were they decided what interested them play. Currently, they are people who do not even know and the radio decide which is the music of the singer, or artist. I give you an example, on Antena 1 radio that is called a great protection of national music, I know I have three songs, one of the last record I made that rarely is played and then got another old, who is "after goodbye "and" nini of age fifteen" it passes the feeling that I already died some thirty years ago. That's what I complain and will not tell me that those songs are better than the ones today because they are not. There, my records are not known, because people do not play them, the public can only like what they know.

It is a young Mozambican fashion designer who is the new it thing in town.
Tausse Daniel recently presented his collection spring-summer 2014 in Portugal Fashion and Fashion Riccione in Italy, inspired by Africa. According to him his coordinated symbiosis results "with typical African materials, with a transition from yellow to purple. It is a sophisticated collection for a glamorous and sassy woman". In fact, this young designer with just 22 years old, who has won two editions of the fashion week in Mozambique, used patterns of African fabrics and the nature that he applied in evening gowns and daytime wear. The most curious perchance were the deep pits of the necklines, which emphasized the femininity of his clothes. The palette of colors used was very impressive, at least not if that was the basic as often characterize the Portuguese fashion. He took a chanve and in good time. The modeling of some of coordinated was truly appealing, there's plenty of haute couture in his work, however, he also showed garments that can be used seamlessly in day-to-day. So, this a young man is a promises.
Filinto Elisio Correia e Silva, born in Praia, Cape Verde, is a poet and columnist. Was a professor at Somerville, in the United States and adviser to the Minister of Culture of Green Cape. Currently is part of the administration of Multilingual School Foundation and curated the first week of cultural CPLP(comission of countries of portuguese language) held in Madeira.
The intention with this cultural week, which are the main objectives of this meeting?
Filinto Elisio Correia e Silva: This concept results of CPLP Multilingual Schools is a project that is being developed by the foundation with the same name and that why has beencreated. The matrix is based on three points, an innovative pedagogical model with the new technologies of information and education, multilingualism one, ie, one based education in many languages and also the third aspect, that is multiculturalism. Being a global project by Portugal, but is not Portuguese, this project attempts to create a dialogue between the various cultures. Obviously among the CPLP members are facing the Lusophone cultures, but there is a dimension that is global and we do one week in the future with other cultures.
But the aim is to make cultural weeks throughout the year in several countries in Lusophone, is it?
FECS: In several countries of Lusophone and where the foundation has the opportunity and privilege of being.
It is curious that it is organizing a cultural week, a time when the culture does not have any weight, why is that important?
FECS: It is extremely important because we are in a global environment crisis, I think we bet and invest in culture and that is not fully recognized, productive factors is one of them. I think our speaking countries has windows on culture, a huge development potential, we have to put ourselves on display in dialogue to understand the power of countries, including business. Hence the patrons and sponsors we are bringing a new concept that is not just something on the heat of the moment. We must invest in the culture as an asset in development.
