The publishing world inside and was seen by Rita Canas Mendes.
This is a guide to help anyone who wants to become a writer and was an accidental discovery that intrigued me and I decided to read it. Rita Canas Mendes uses her experience of over 11 years in the publishing world with the specific purpose to help anyone navigate thru the editorial domestic market before publishing a manuscript. I thought it would be a very technical reading and even had a certain fear that was a little boring, but I was wrong, it was easy to "digest" and has very essential information for a novice in these wanderings of the literary world. The language is direct, affordable, no frills, which should be when applying the tools to face the Portuguese publishing market, there are chapters on copyright, how to prepare your manuscript, how to apply for awards, examples of contracts, all you can imagine and more is explained in detail. After finishing the reading I could not help thinking that publishing a book is much more complex than I thought and that requires a lot perseverance by the author, a person even has to believe in its project, there are many obstacles to face, in such a small market as the Portuguese. If you want to be a writer I strongly advise this reading not to discourage you, on the contrary, is a book that will help you to keep a realistic perspective on the market and how the national publishers "think”, the essential thing is not to lose heart and still try to write a book without fear. All worth it when the soul is not small. Have a nice reading.
