João Queiroz explores the language of the physical body in his artwork. A representation of the elements conceptualized in various forms that materialize in his canvas.
One feature of his work is to explore the landscape.
João Queiroz: It's the beginning of the possibility of a unique theme. Generate various forms of representation and the elements that are obviously in this subject, as the landscape for example. It is able to constantly evolve somehow and find different things.
In the day-to-day you go looking these landscapes?
JQ: No, I can usually drawing only from memoire and then build in my own studio these relationships. No need of visiting sites.
You address this question of the physical in your work.
JQ: Of the body.
What is the creative process for the physical body that you speak in your work?
JQ: The physical body why? When you are doing the work, in the landscape there are relationships that are present in contemplation which are also a mirror of our body, there are the high, the low, the left, the right and imagine that you can get in some places over others. It all has to do with the body. All this game can also be made in the representation, not only abroad, but also that the relationship of this exterior with what happens in us.
It is mainly a reflection? Because when you talk about this issue there is no reflection.
JQ: About the image that will appear, no.
It is on purpose?
JQ: It happens, so it is a physical process of work.
Somehow there is an almost primitive process?
JQ: No, it is a process whose joints are happening and involve knowledge, experience and have done other work. Is never immediate.
It's almost automatic?
JQ: It is not automatic; it's all a process of thinking and working.
What inspires you in these moments or there is no inspiration?
JQ: What I think does not count.
There is nothing that the influence from the outside while you are in that process?
JQ: No, this is all happening to me.
It is the dialectics of the artist and his work?
JQ: Yes.
