But there is evidence to corroborate the stories of these events?
RB: Yes, they were the first in Machico, where no one knows where for sure and Funchal. They did not know whether there were lions or elephants, or Alberto Joao, so they stay in my island and it is proved that fact in the history of Portugal.
What is the future of the principality?
RB: The future does not worry me. Note this is just a dream of a man who wanted to create a country and I'm not thinking for now of doing my part of the 800 years of story as Dom Afonso Henriques did. I want to spend my time, as the constitution states and that will decide the future of my country.
It has been recognized by any credible institution at an international level?
RB: It has been recognized by the largest institution that exists in the world, which is my constitution. I acknowledge myself as a Prince. From here on is worth what is worth. Let me give you an example, Guinea was recognized by the United Nations as independent and the Portuguese were still on charge. It took a coup for them to leave. So this is what is at stake power and war. They want me to be violent, to be able to say that I am a terrorist, but I am peaceful. I was in the military Portuguese army only for twenty minutes. I am a peaceful person completely. It would also be a crime that to be recognized as a country I have to live there. Had a lot of hatred to destroy everything, when you can have a home anywhere in the world. It has a number of relics that are being targeted for restoration, I am speaking of the archeological finding that were never been examined by experts before. It would be a crime to pour cement at a place that has lots of history.
What are these historical relics that you speech about?
RB: In the mortar for example and the University of Aveiro is doing a geological survey in this regard. Indeed, excavations are taking place is the first fort to be dug, not in Portugal, because it's not a Portuguese territory, but in the Atlantic and has been duly accredited by archaeologists, who discovered traces of the English occupation. We also found remains of pottery and glass from a craft workshop, bone buttons, beads and fish vertebrae necklaces, pipes, a crucible for casting bullets, projectiles of metal and stone, which in itself justify the opening of a museum.
I know you have guided tours.
RB: They have average 15 people per institution at first they were afraid because the Portuguese government tries to hide that location, the locals do not know anything about that story.
But why would they hide that fact?
RB: They hide because it's a legal error, because it is not Portuguese. The state sold the possession and mastery. It is a legal terminology of the period of discovery. A person has possession of its apartment, but doesn't have its domain, that is hold by the Portuguese State. In that case, Portugal sold the possession and dominion that means what? I can do whatever I want; I can make a tea house or a restaurant. Renato Barros, because of the attitude of regional government decided based on the charter that is in London to create a state and no one can prevent me from doing so. A person residing in an apartment cannot create a state at its residence, because he has not the prerogative of international law and I have this surplus value. Portugal has 11 million people and to date no Portuguese ruler came to blame my attitude. Is not that odd?
Maybe they don't take you seriously?
RB: I am a public official in Portugal, should have a disciplinary process because I was crazy, which is something I'm not.
Why did you decide to create a state? To draw attention?
RB: No, I decided to create a state because it was my will. People still are not aware of one thing, that although they think I'm crazy, I have a document. I'm not the type of person who shouts to make an impression I do it to say that the island is mine.
But who calls crazy?
RB: I'm crazy and who is not, does not live. Life is a healthy craziness, note that I do not offend anyone. I do it all alone and Dom Afonso Henrique did too and he was not insane in fact even he had a statue after his death. Now there are 11 million Portuguese and Portugal in past, such a small country divided the world in half.
