The citiy of the infinite

It is one of the most beautiful cities of Europe and a must for lovers of architecture.

Have you ever visited a place and had the distinct impression that you were in a new world? Barcelona had that effect on me. It is a city where there are no limits to the imagination. The capital of Cataluña is like a revelation in every corner, each angle is always a surprise full of fascination and fantasy. Las Ramplas it is always a meeting point for all who live in this metropolis and tourists. It's a long walk in the plaza de Catalunya, surrounded by beautiful buildings, where we can find a little of everything, art, music and many, many people until late at night. It is a strong constant rumor, which dominates over the noise of the city it selves. It's graphic, colorful, has movement and seems never ending. When you leave las Ramplas more surprises are lurking.

One is La Pedrera, one of the great buildings designed by Antoni Gaudí for one of the wealthiest families in Cataluña. It is a unique apartments complex inspired by nature, is imposing and a labyrinth at the same time. It is an organic building, with its strange arches and their waving wrought iron balconies. It is a temple of parables and unusual tones. The roof is dominated by the chimneys guardians who store the skies of the city. The roof corridors with unrealistic sculptures that seem to come alive when caressed by the first rays of the sunset. Living sheltered by the walls of Casa Milá must be a thrilling and unique life experience, different every day. No room for boredom.

Following the traces of Gaudi, nothing better to brighten your eyes that the Park Guell. It is a serpentine journey by colorful mosaics. Hanging gardens. It's a dream, populated by strange creatures that guard their gates to welcome us. It is a magical place. Its beauty inspires us and crushes us at the same time. The Holy Family requires waking up at an early morning, the queues are huge, and like the monument that dominates the urban landscape of Barcelona. Gaudi towers seem to reach infinity, challenging the forces of gravity with their strange arms spleens. It is a temple inspired by a divine thought that only existed in this very unique and brilliant man’s mind. It makes us feel small and mediocre before such beauty white and gray. Diverting you now to visit el Palau de la musica Catalunya, is an exquisite building, its interior is a wonder we are left without words. It is a music box made of multicolored stained glass. Kaleidoscopes of different shades that inundates our view. Designed by Luis Domenech i Montaner to house the Orfeo Català, this building represents the new Catalan architecture, and is patrimony of UNESCO, as well as the buildings that I mentioned. One more suggestion, a visit to the museum Miró, the beauty of his art often so misunderstood.

The former Olympic city, in Montjuïc is the only area that has undergone an urban review, since it was a little abandoned. The pool, overlooking the burgh, continues to be used for sporting events. It has a privileged landscape of the metropolis and also hosted a video of Kylie Minogue; I will not say which one. Guess what! It is a great place for sightseeing and outdoor sports. A warning about some of the Catalans of this city. Even when you speak Spanish they respond in Catalan, is a matter of pride. Never, ever, call them Spaniards. Great, huge mortal sin! Fatal error!

The last stop should always be at sea. The Mediterranean, which dominates the edge of the town. Deserves a dip in the warm waters and a final walk thru the promenade always adorned with sculptures. Still seek a square, I will not say the name, maybe you will recognizes it as I did, as one of the scenarios of Almodovar movie "all about my mother." It is your challenge, to find it. On my last evening in Barcelona, I say farewell to the city, from the roof of a house in the Moorish quarter.
