It is a tribute to the people that help restore the dignity of those who lost everything

Humanism does not happen by chance. He lives within. He resides in the complicit faces, gaping smiles and open arms. Has no religion. Has no color. Has no party. Has no race. It has much less range or boundaries. It feeds on the goodwill of men. The anonymous who donate their little nothings. Their time. Their words of comfort. Their joy of living. Their attentive ears. After the fire that wrought the lives of many, the union was enforced and the ability of accomplishment will gradually compose in slow motion, the everyday of our lives that thought were ashes. And in the amid of the rubble hope was born with the help of 60 volunteers, coordinated by the board of Gaula, the day after the fire destroyed a large part of the landscape of the island, so, they set in motion a new world, less black, more color hope. Early in the morning, groups of people gathered the wreckage of a life time, before the sad eyes of those who saw death in the form of high flames. The removal and cleaning of seven houses was completely made in parallel with ten other housing half destroyed.

On Sunday, July 22th, 2012, four days after the flames of hell, solved the most pressing cases, began the collaboration of several entities clearing large trees which threatened homes and was started on the first recovery of a house destroyed in Sao Joao, in Gaula. Then, given the frequent request of residents of other towns of Santa Cruz the had been affected by the flames made the distribution of drinking water and have been promoted several cleaning actions in order to help to those that mostly need. Every day these anonymous heroes masked in black, helped others without asking anything in return, "today we help others so that tomorrow we can get all the help we need" It is the struggle against indifference, against sadness and against lost causes, such as Paulo Alves who volunteered said "I thought it was important to help people, I can only do it for a few hours, because I have also a family" and as Fernando Pedrosa, "I am currently unemployed, but I felt that people needed help and I offered to volunteer. I'm giving my contribution for two weeks ago, since the beginning of this horrible incident. I had not even aware of what would be the scenario. In those days you could only see the smoke, I saw really the scale of the tragedy when I came here. The brutality of the fire. I do whatever is needed. There is a time to start, but not to finish. We provided cleaning houses, supply of furniture, clothing and food. We give up some psychological support, people confide with us". A soul relief from those who could not fight the flames alone, whose mobility does not allow redo what little is left, for those still dream in the dead of night with the living flame that almost claimed their lives. For the victims any help accounts and smiles bathed in tears serve as thank you for the hand that is often not enough, but precious. It is the human being at its best. It is its noblest soul that shines in a scene painted in black. It is also the perfect place for the rebirth of hope, so help to help, be supportive, and be human above all.
