It is an author work of photography from the artist Susana Paiva
It is a more than unexpected book, is like opening a present and find another box, and another small box, and another and another, just look at the cover. Nothing is obvious. It is a compendium of what is photography, and yes, it has pictures, is a literary and artistic object in one volume. And books like men are not measure by size. Believe it. The photos, those, you will have to discover, through the new technologies, which will lead you to the universe of Susana Paiva, her world of light and shadow, of heavens and the earth and its mysteries. This is a very peculiar way of looking at the photograph, is the personalized vision of a professional who has nothing of common, or trivial, that is her nature, her signature and is worth flipping through this pearl just to confirm the talent. Good discovery.

Come discover the before and after of a sea storm that struck the south coast of Madeira , in particular the town of Santa Cruz.
Contrary to the assertions are not only climate change mainly responsible for the sea invasion of the land , the ocean is a force of nature in constantly changing, lively and unpredictable and many times we forget that. Since the world is world always existed tides , tidal waves and sea storms , what changed was the direct action of man on the coast and on an island the consequences of these natural events are at least overwhelming . In the late afternoon of December 17th, 2013 the sky was painted copper, a natural phenomenon that heralded the beginning of what would be a long sleepless night and the prelude to an announced tropical storm. The sea of the south coast of Madeira Island, usually serene blue as a well as the people say, decided to show its strength and destroy everything that lies in its path. Waves with nine meters high crashed off the coast of Santa Cruz mercilessly, in an almost deafening noise of volcanic rocks shattered into a thousand pieces by the force of furious seawater.

I and others like me we looked impotent and silent the water invasion aggravated by wind and heavy rain that drag skeletons of trees and debris to the main arteries of the city with the soul of the village. The Beach Street became literally a walkway to the rising sea, the palm trees waved up but did not break, the buildings resisted silently while being buffeted by the merciless storm. Almost no one ventured by the salty lanes. Elsewhere in Santa Cruz the waves rise and showed it white rage , a frightening phenomenon , but at the same time of an almost indescribable beauty , a kind of foam pump that fragmented into millions of salty drops that bathed everything in its round . It was Mother Nature at its best.

Ana Moreira already has an extensive curriculum in terms of representation, although been young. It is one of the few actresses who can work continuously in Portuguese cinema. An enviable trajectory that includes some of the most iconic characters of the national cinematography and even some international awards.
With an extensive career in film, you have begun early age, how do you see the evolution of the Portuguese cinema since then until the present day?
Ana Moreira: It's a very rich film, with lots of history. With great filmmakers like João Botelho , Manuel de Oliveira , Teresa Vilaverde and Jorge Caniça that all contribute to this universe which is the Portuguese cinema, although we live in a crisis all that is associated with the culture , the film is fact an art form to be practice . However, there is a whole new blood with new filmmakers like Jose Salavisa, Rodrigo Areias, or Jorge Quintela who are young promises of Portuguese cinema, which I see as a great future ahead.
You have collaborated with male and female filmmakers, notes some difference when working with them and they?
AM: No.
The roles that you enroll throughout your career, what have presented a greater challenge in terms of representation? In the "court of the North" you played more than one character, but in "Trance", on the other hand, you had to learn a language. Which one required you more?
AM: In its own way all the roles are different and challenging, I like working with different directors brings a whole new practice of representation, because all require different things to the characters they created. Some characters are physically and psychologically stressful especially because the tread itself is different. When you are away from your country, from your house, away from your daily life you will delivered a deeper character because you do not have references of your day to day life and live it more intensely. Maybe with Teresa Vilaverde, she always writes strong female characters and so perhaps I had with her striking good times and great level of representation. With Botelho, with "the court of the North", was lucky to embark on this adventure of him believing that in the same movie I was able to make about six women with different temperaments and times. It was a work of actor and it had to be a great confidence between me and the director to believe in the work and be generous.
How can you strip these characters? It is a difficult process?
AM: No, it's not difficult. This thing of taking the character home and be suffering, no, no. That to me does not work well, there are no rules on how or not should work, what happens is that in some way the character turns off, the scenes that we had to make are fulfilled, the next day there will be more, if only the character is asleep, dormant under the skin and when I need I'll search it again, but I try not suffer, the film should be good.

It is a fashion brand design created by young designer Mariana Sousa seeking to appeal to more youthful and charming spirit of Portuguese women at any age.
Why you decided to pursue a career as a fashion designer?
Mariana Sousa: Because it is been with me since I was young, my mother is a seamstress for over 30 years; I grew up in the middle of the fabrics. Her dream was to have been a stylist, her daughter continued this desire. But there is no single reason, however, if I knew what I know today had not done the course of fashion design, had taken up as a hobby and would have chosen another. It's a fairly complicated area; no one gives us the deserved value.
Tell me how you create the collections? Where do you get inspiration? It is only in the trends, or is also influenced by other factors such as the materials, in the case of the island, flowers, landscapes and embroidery.
MS: For example, this spring-summer collection inspired me in hydrangeas, because who goes to the north of the island area, note these gorgeous flowers, the colors and format. I picked fabrics with textures; everything reminded me of this flower. The latest collection for autumn-winter 2014 brings the autumn garden, through the colors of the woods, leaves, overlapping and did everything I see here a forest inspires me.
What were the main challenges for some of the pieces that you presented this last presentation? There was some material that appears more difficult or not really?
MS: No, I have woven lining chairs, think are the best textile to work and have a high quality.
You used them for coats?
MS: Right, got also synthetic furs, meshes with mixed colors and various types of yarn, but I had no difficulty working with. The patterns for knitting I do it myself and that I have two ladies who work with the machine.

It is a short film written and directed by Fabio Freitas discusses the idea of change within a small family. A film that had as protagonists Martha Andrino and Francisco Arraiol who spoke about the challenges of their characters.
What inspired the script for "partir"?
Fábio Freitas : "Partir" born of the need to gain strength in a less good moment of my life basically was where I found encouragement. Partir it is exactly that, it is to cause movement, which I did.
I noticed that the scenery is sparse, there are few objects , could not never figure out who these people are , even in terms of clothing , it was purposeful or not ?
FF : It was clearly deliberate , moreover , I do not like to illustrate things a lot , and the less stress the better for me . In the clothing level I used very similar colors , there is every need in terms of photography there is a cohesion plenty of browns and tones need to be very connected to nature mostly. It is very down to earth , they are far away from the city life, of an urban moment .
The color white emphasizes a certain innocence of the 3 brothers .
FF : Yes , without a doubt.
Pure even as more intimate .
FF : Yes , that was it was all thought in that aspect , because essentially the characters learned to live in a very particular way , which comes from a very isolated rural society and that there is much ingenuity and hence this purity and white is the best answer and symbology.
What were the greatest difficulties you found in the production ?
FF : It was the fact of wanting to control everything and be aware of it , I have to delegate and trust people . I learned this and I will continue to learn.
You chose biblical names , are very strong in historical terms , it's all connected to the theme you chose ?
FF : Clearly the names were not random , maybe even felt a need to put more purity and ingenuity in the characters. It is a return to the past , there is even some mysticism surrounding these names , are very strong and common sense immediately associates them to the bible . It's hard to explain are my personal things, values that I acquired throughout life and has to do with a family matter.
This experience what you're going to take your next project ?
FF : I'll take some more experience I have gained . I realize that was a learning experience , dealing with unexpected situations when we are recording for more things are controlled, thoughtful and organized, learned from it and moved on .

It is a surf brand dedicated to developing hand planes for bodysurfing and alaias for surfing . Through research and experimentation in the past two years, seeking to develop high quality, comfort and performance products that break the established and innovate , as regard the founder of this concept.
How did the idea of creating a brand of surf Ahua came ?
Nuno Mesquita : I started to become interested in the topic when I saw a film about the alaias on the boards of Hawaiian surf . I noticed that needed time , because I had no experience of working the boards by hand , so I started by hand plains, which basically are small short boards , on a smaller scale , I started to make them , I saw that started gaining grace , after dexterity acquired I started my first alaia that went very wrong , because I chose a very poor wood. Then I had a great difficulty in acquiring paulowina a suitable timber for the Hawaiian surfboards and hand plains , I spent several months waiting and decided to try the cork which is a material that is here and had made some pieces with this material . This was the engine to found Ahua brand .
What these surfboards, alaias has that the others don't?
NM : I started to do them because there was nobody to make them and also could not buy them . It never interested me to have a normal surfboard and these had something that called me and did not know what it was. The alaia is a specific board for a certain type of waves, is fantastic , is magical to surf in them, because they are much faster, as it has no fins, fin which is what you see underneath wheel is like snowboarding in liquid . You need to get power from other sites and that creates a different relationship with the wave.
You mentioned that the first alaia went wrong because of poor choice of material , how then did the research to reach paulowina ?
NM : It was on the internet . The ideal material for these boards is paulowina , which is very light and flexible, ideal wood for jump. This makes it has a total based finish of linseed oil and honey which are very resistant to salt water, they cease to be on glass fiber or veneer and the board is much more environmentally friendly . If it were another timber would not work .
But it is an appropriate board for those who master the surf ?
NM : Yes, it's a board for an advanced level or for someone with great availability to try something new . These boards are outside the comfort zone of normal surfer.

The resumption of independence is celebrated with pomp and circumstance in the city of Santa Cruz, Madeira.
The darkness still embraces Santa Cruz, but I hear nervous steps breaking down the sidewalk, the waves roaring in the pebble, the echo of voices in joyous hubbub in the streets and the incessant bustle of rustling of goods in the local market. Along the Quinta do Revoredo the peace is abruptly interrupted by the sound of the instruments in disarray and warning cries, the municipal band prepares to march through the city streets, starting one of the most beautiful "arruadas" of Madeira, the one across the island, which continuously reconstitutes for over 80 years, thanks to nationalist impulses of a conductor and some musicians, the celebrations of December 1st, 1640.

Six o'clock in the morning. The reveille resounds through the narrow streets of a city with the soul a village , the people spontaneously joins musicians that stop in all institutions of the parish , one by one they are all treated with the same layout good morning and good a hymn of nationalist content. At the opposite extreme, and many curious and Saint Croix habitants, wait patiently, between yawns and conversations of circumstance, in front of the Town Hall for the municipal band to start staging the restoration of independence, by the amateur theater group "the Minute ". The revolt of the 40 conjured against the yoke of Spanish begins ... two conspirators discuss the final details of a plan of attack of the King's palace , with the aim of capturing the Duchess of Mantua and arrange the death of the Secretary of State, Miguel de Vasconcelos, taking advantage of the fact that the Spanish court moved to Madrid . It is the prelude to a moment lost in the bygone time, but still very present in the collective memory that is now remembered after 373 years , the rebels leading the impoverished people hoisting white flags with the shield of Portugal invade the palace with amid shouts of: Kill the traitor and hurray freedom ! The Italian dame between vehement protests is arrested as predicted and Don Miguel is sent to the gallows that waits for him near the mob. The dramatic gesture starts the laughter and applause of the entire audience, since that is launched instead, from the balcony of the Town Hall of Santa Cruz, is nothing more than a puppet.

Jorge Palinhos is one of the leading names of the national drama. It is also an author who wanders through the various areas of writing, from short stories, movie scripts and more recently novels. Above all is passionate about the theater and writing hence his calling and curse, in a country where writing is a strange way of life. Currently, we can find him in the Teatrão, in Coimbra.
Along with other authors and writers you have been developing an artistic activity in "teatrão" through the "tell me how ". You currently are writing a play for the theater of several hands, how you find a thread to a text intended to be uniform when the authors have different experiences and paths?
Jorge Palinhos: This is something we are still working and trying to figure out at this point. Find common ground, the linkage to the various scenes and create a seamless narrative, something that seems coherent as a whole, even though written by many hands.
But there is a common theme that embraces all of these writings, or not?
JP: Yes, the theme is to portray the everyday situations that reflect a fact that influences the lives of most people, this is the great common theme.
The stories are independent or will cross?
JP: If it is going to cross or not, this is something that we are still structuring in this time. There was a writing process, discussion of the various scenes, moreover, in each of these week- end there was a moment of reading with the public, where scenes were represented and discussed with the audience, to see to what extent people recognized themselves in these situations.
And the play will be staged when?
JP: It will debut next 24th or even on April 25th, 2014, but will have a longer season in Coimbra, in October.
It is a television miniseries based on a book by Maria Filomena Mónica .
This is the journey of a rich family in the Azores over 10 years in the nineteenth century. A television adaptation of a novel called " corners " , of the author Maria Filomena Mónica also here in the dual role of screenwriter, which helps to trace the route not only the Câmara clan , but above all it depicts with the utmost fidelity the reality of the Azores , Sao Miguel . I love this kind of programs that print the accuracy in everything from the sets , the wardrobe , and the historic environment and to the proper time for the speech, is always an asset to have a moment of great quality fiction in a public channel. " An Azorean family " is a great bet of the programming RTP and in my view we win in all aspects, from the script to the more technical issues to the photography, some of the background images that are wonderful and worth sitting and enjoy life on the islands.

The Storytailors are a duo of Portuguese designers who celebrated in October 10 years of existence.
When Luis Sanchez and João Branco took the catwalk by storm with their first collection chins fell off with such a cheerful and transgressive creativity and at the end there was a rain of applause of no previous memory. This dual told us a story of delight that lasted these ten years of existence, albeit with a few bumps along the way, as the result of a too small and limited market in financial terms to sustain such stylized and refined vision of Portuguese women. The only fact is that we can never refute the luxury of their visual creations, from the quality of materials to the impeccable modeling that always accentuates the wonderful curves of female silhouettes. But what sets them apart from the rest? The stories that each of its parts that comes in whole , or even isolated , it is as if each one of those dresses assume a personality , the woman angel , the gypsy , the Eve , the Cinderella , the warrior , the seductive and the romantic , all the kind of characters who inhabit the body of a woman . That's the genius of Storytailors! The dream that lives in each of these collections, in each of the details that make up the coordinated and that make all women sigh ... I hope for much in a long term. Congratulations and I wish you 10 more to come!
